What is HIV/AIDS?
HIV, also known as Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is a virus that the human immune system can't seem to get rid of. The defenition of HPV virus is: a virus that is the cause of common warts of the hands and feet, as well as lesions of the mucous membranes of the oral, anal, and genital cavities.Over 50 types of HPV have been identified, some are even associated with cancerous and precancerous conditions. The virus can be transmitted through sexual contact, and specific types of the virus are a precursor to cancer of the cervix. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Scientists believe HIV came from a particular kind of chimpanzee in Western Africa. HIV can be spread in many ways. A few ways are:
1. Having unprotected sex.
2. Sharing needles, syringes, rinse water, or other equipment used to prepare illicit drugs for injection.
3. Being born to a mother that is infected.
Signs/Sypmtoms of HIV/AIDS:
1. Some people do not even show signs of having this disease.
2. Flu-like sypmtoms.
3. Fever, Chills, and Swollen Glands.
4. The symptoms shown above will go away and you may not have any more symptoms for an extended amount of time.
5. The immune system will be severely weakened.
Treatment:
Unfortuanetly, for HIV/AIDS, there is no cure. Although, you can take medications to slow down the damage to your immune system. It is very important for pregnant women with HIV to get treated during their pregnancy to decrease the risk of giving HIV to the baby.
Possible Complications/Health Consequences:
1. You will eventually end up dying.
2. With the correct medication, it can slow the progression of the disease down.
3. Once diagnosed, it can prevent you from infecting others.
